The Similarities and Differences of Doodle Fiction, Manga and Graphic Novel


    What is Doodle Fiction, Manga and Graphic Novel ?


     After we have discovered the conventional literary genres. Let us now proceed to some of the modern literary genres presently used by 21st century writers such as Doodle Fiction, Manga and Graphic Novel. As we will now focus on the said specific genres, try to think what are their similarities and differences in terms of structures and elements. But first, try to guess what are the pictures below.

    Look how it differ from each other. Although they are look alike as "picture book" or comic book.


      Doodle Fiction 

        • Literary presentation where the author incorporates doodle writing, drawings and handwritten graphics in place of the traditional font. Example is "The Diary of Wimpy Kid" by Jeff Kinney.


      Manga

        • Japanese word for comics. It is used in the English-speaking world as a generic term for all comic books and graphic novels originally published in Japan. Example is "Sailor Moon".


       Graphic Novel

        • Narrative in comic book formats in which the story is conveyed to the reader using a comic book. Example is "Archie Comics" by John Goldwater.


  

                      Similarities

  All genres incorporate drawings, illustrations or graphics in telling a story.


                     Differences

 (in terms of structure and elements)

       Doodle Fiction incorporates handwritten graphics. Graphic Novel uses a comic book format presented in panels, and read from left to right unlike Manga which is read from right to left.
